This handsome Greek couple consist of a beautifully costumed lady and a very smart Greek gentleman dressed perhaps as a palace guard. They have come from a large collection of international travel/souvenir dolls which were purchased in the 1960's.
They both have soft felt molded faces which have been expertly painted with great eyes and detail. The arms are hard plastic set into the bodies with wire and the legs and rest of the body also feels like plastic. Other than a small darkish mark on her right cheek, both the dolls and the costumes are in particularly fine condition. She measures 9 1/2" tall and he stands at 9". Both stand very well without support.
Her costume is full of fine touches and detail - lots of lace and gold braid and a pretty lace scarf which covers a finely coiffed mohair 'hairdo'. She wears a stiff tulle under slip, white cotton stockings and black shoes.
His costume is equally detailed and well made. His red vest is heavily trimmed with gold braid and small ornaments, his off white pencil pleated 'skirt' is double layered and his shoes are hand sewn red 'leather' with great black pom-poms at the toes. His flat red felt hat is trimmed with a generous black tassel.
A nice pair for a collection!
