This very lovely vintage 18K solid yellow gold brooch set with a large, luminous cultured pearl is full of movement reminiscent of a bird in flight. The design is quite unique offering elegantly shaped 'feather fronds' which are 1/8" wide tapering to fine points which are exquisitely done in 'Bullini' textured gold at their interior and set off by polished edges. The fine cultured 8mm pearl has a wonderful luster and is set in such a way that this wonderful piece of jewelry could also be worn as an impressive pendant. The 'bar and barrel' type clasp/pin and attachment for the pearl are in white gold.
The condition of this piece is excellent other than one tiny pinprick nick to the nacre on the left side of the pearl which is not noticeable but is reflected in the price. It is marked with '750' for 18K and a maker's mark which I cannot identify. However this piece was acquired in Europe in the middle 1960's and I suspect that it is either Swiss or Italian.
Length of brooch 2 1/8" long (5.5cm) x 1 5/8" wide (4.5cm) and 1/2" (1.5cm) high. Weight is 12 grams of what is almost entirely sold 18K gold.
This is a truly elegant and distinctive piece of jewelry which which is utterly wearable for any occasion and looks equally stunning on its own or as a sparkling complement to a string of pearls.
