This is a striking Victorian style sterling filigree silver and citrine bejewelled heart shape pendant with a citrine drop and delicate sterling chain. Although it has not been possible to pinpoint a date for this piece, the style, the hook closure on the chain, the quality and solidity of the filigree and the provenance points to it being late Victorian or early Edwardian. The filigree work is exceptionally detailed and well done with a great deal of artistic detail. All the little silver beads are in place on both the pendant and the bale, which is also beautifully decorated.
The pendant is 2 3/4 inches long, including the drop and is 1 3/8 inches across at the widest part. It is set with 4 beautifully sparkling large citrine oval stones measuring 19mm long and 7mm wide which are bezel set into the intricate filigree silver work. The stones are an old cut and I cannot see any wear, scratches or chips. It is stamped Sterling on the back of the heart.
Although I cannot identify a maker's stamp, there is a small raised horseshoe shape on the back which may be of significance to an expert. The fine link chain, in perfect condition, is 16 3/4 inches long with a simple but secure hook fastening. Although unmarked, the chain acid tests for 925 sterling silver.
