This is a 1897 Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821 ) French Emperor / Silver Souvenir Spoon. Antique 1897 London, England Figural Napoleon Sterling Silver Serving Spoon By Berthold Muller. The back of the bowl is stamped with an 1897, London, England sterling silver hallmark & a "Berthold Muller" maker's mark. The back of the bowl is also stamped with a Hanau Psuedo French maker's mark. This is a very massive and wonderfully detailed spoon weighing nearly 5 Troy ounces ( 156 grams ). It measures 10 & 3/4" long and the bowl is 3 & 1/4" wide! It is in great condition, other than the expected light scratching from being around for over 100 years and some very slight pitting in the bowl. These types of Historical Spoons of People of the World are very scarce. Several of these large Souvenir Spoons are shown in the following Reference Book: A Collector's Guide to Spoons around the World by Rainwater & Felger in section: VI People of the World, starting on page 350 illustrating the figural spoons of Augustus II, Frederick II, Mary, Queen of Scots, Viscount Horatio Nelson and of Napoleon. This particular spoon that is illustrated in this reference book is a different version to the Napoleon Spoon that is pictured in our Shop. There are sevral different versions of this type of Spoons.
