This is a Rowland & Marsellus Blue & White Souvenir Plate. It measures 10" across. It is one of the very desirable "Rolled Edge Plates" and has a Rich Deep Blue. It has (2) oval portraits on the sides: with Henry W. Longfellow on the right and Stephen Longfellow the Poet's Father on the left. It shows (4) other scenes around the plate: Longfellow's Birthplace / The Portland Head light / Deerings Woods / Longfellow Monument and in the middle of the plate is Longfellow's Early Home. It has a Poem on the back: "Often I think of the Beautiful Town / That is seated by the Sea / Often in thought go up and down / The pleasant streets of that dear old town / And my Youth comes back to me" signed Longfellow. It is marked on the back "The Rowland & Marsellus Co. Staffordshire England / Designed & Imported by T. F. Foss & Sons Portland Me. Other than a couple of tiny edge nicks from a plate hanger, it is in fine, very good condition and there are no other flaws on it. It is as nice as you'll ever run across. It is a great piece of American History. It will make a fine addition to any related souvenir pottery / china or flow blue transferware collection. As the plate glaze is highly reflective, please disregard all of the photography-related glare and shadowing.
