This is a Rare & Early Gorham Sterling Silver Toast Fork. The Tines of the Fork resembles a small pitch fork and is decorated with elaborate wavy rococo designs throughout the piece that extend down into the tines of the Fork. The entire Handle and Fork is Sterling Silver 925 / 1000. Being formed into 2 pieces being attached together, the front and back and so it is hollow on the inside. Being a hollow handled piece makes it more susceptible to damage such as small dings and dents, but this piece is is wonderful condition with no damage. This Toast Fork weighs around 34 grams. It is marked Sterling with a pattern number and has the early Gorham Trademark on it with a "Lion Anchor & G", which would date it around the 1890's and is also marked & dated " Copyrighted" "1890". It does have a date mark on it, which is (2) small circles for the date of 1893. This Toast Fork has a weight of around 34 grams. This is a very difficult piece to find, we have had but only (2) two Toast Forks in 35 Years + of our involvement with Silver items, so that gives you an idea of the scarcity. It measures 6 & 1/2" in length and 1 & 7/8" at it's widest point. We truly doubt that there would be many others to compare with this one, out in the silver market. We stepped up when we purchased it years ago and are scaling down and selling some of our Personal treasures.
