This is a signed 1890's Wavecrest Letter Holder that is in the Egg Crate design by C. F. Monroe Company. It is all hand enameled with wispy Ferns & Flowers. It measures 5 & 3/4" long, 3 & 1/4" wide and stands 4 & 1/4" tall. It is an elegant beautiful Letter Holder and needs to be placed on a beautiful fancy Desk. This Letter Box was produced by C F. Monroe Company circa 1898 - 1901 in Meridian, Connecticut. "Wavecrest" was a line that Monroe produced along with "Nakara" and "Kelva" in this Opal-ware Glass (Milk Glass) with Hand Painted decoration, along with some Transferware on pieces such as Portraits and Scenes. This Company, C. F. Monroe ceased production in 1916. It has Brass Ormolu collar on the Top with Beading around it and has Fancy Leaf covers over the edges of this piece that have beads on them. This wonderful Letter Box / Holder was made to hold Letters and Envelopes. It has exceptional Floral design decoration. It is decorated on the front and the back hand decorated with Enameled Wispy Ferns & Flowers & Foliage. It is in great condition and has no damage at all. It has a Blown Out Embossed Blank / Mold that is called "Egg Crate" design. C F Monroe Company produced Wavecrest Glass and other lines of Glassware that closely resembles the French Opaline Glass that is so prized by collectors. This piece of Wavecrest is marked on the bottom as finding Signed pieces are fairly scarce, most pieces were not signed, especially the early pieces were not Marked. Some of the Glass blanks / molds that were used by Monroe came from France, but primarily came from Mt. Washington Glass Works and its successor,The Pairpoint Companies.
