Sterling Silver Montegrappa Fountain Pen model 1055 VI. Made in Italy
With it's simple and elegant engine turned Sterling Silver body, this pen was beloved by its previous owner. Loving cared for, the body has developed a richness and patina that only time can manage.
Fully marked on every piece. Cap is marked with (star) 1055 VI and then Montegrappa Italy, the top of the pen has the Montegrappa signature date of 1912, the nib holder (also called section) is marked 925, the nib is marked Montegrappa, Italy, F (for fine tip) and 750 (18K gold), and the barrel is marked (star) 1055 VI, 925 and then 925 again.
NO major scratches or dents of any kind - overall minor and normal wear from use. Fountain pen pump appears to be in near mint condition, but I have not tried to fill this pen or write with it.
Pen has a wonderful weight and balance in the hand. Overall weight is 36 grams. Measures 5 1/2" long. Unfortunately, I do not have the original box for this pen.
Montegrappa holds the honor of being the oldest Italian manufacturer of fine writing instruments in the world. Founded in Bassano del Grappa, Italy in 1912, it has been developing writing tools in the same historic building from which it originated.
They have produced the pen of choice for authors including John Dos Passos, Paulo Coelho and Ernest Hemingway. Its pens are used by popes, presidents and royalty. Among these notables are His Holiness John Paul II, His Majesty King Juan Carlos of Spain, His Majesty King Hussein of Jordan, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand, His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei and others.
