Beautiful vintage (1930-40's) silver plated cigarette box/dispenser manufactured by the Cross Company in London. During this period the company would still be named the A.T. Cross company for company founder Alonzo Townsend Cross. This pre-dates the company's acquisition of the Mark Cross company.
This beautiful, heavily chased/repousse silver-plated box is demilune shaped with a door on the flat side that swings open to reveal space for cigarettes. Clearly marked with the CROSS London Hallmark. The initials JGK are also engraved under the Logo.
With the door closed, the dispenser measures 5 1/2" wide x 3 1/2 deep. With the door fully open, the box measures about 5 3/8" deep. It stands 4" tall and weighs 1 pound 10 ounces. The entire box is covered in various scenes of tavern/family life. Beautifully manufactured, the door swings effortlessly on it's central axis. There is a fairly even, overall wear to the silverplate with the copper base showing through on the highest areas. Bottom is simply stamped "PAT.APPL'D FOR"
