Beautiful pill box, patch box or compact. Made in Austria-Hungary circa 1880, the box has a deep, royal blue guilloche enameled lid with a silver urn of flowers. Enameling is near perfect - with no chips, major scratches or missing pieces. Silver has a few minor surface scratches consistent with age and use. Bottom is beautifully engine turned.
Inside, the mirror is loosing it's silver (see pictures). These mirrors are usually removable for replacement but I have not tried on this particular box.
Box is marked inside the box on the bottom as well all along the edge of its top lid. Mark is the number 23 followed by KF in an oval, then the 1867-1922 Austrian-Hungary mark for 800 silver and the city mark for Vienna (the mark is the number 3, followed by the dogs head and then the letter A).
Box measures about 1 5/8" (40mm) diameter and 5/8" (15mm) tall. Weighs 34 grams.
Tight hinge - closes perfectly -
