Lovely handpainted snuff box. English, circa early 19th Century.
This papier mache snuff box has four reserves, each painted with two delicate pink roses and green leaves on a cream colored background. The center of the box has a complex octagonal star, similar to a compass rose, done in gilt tracery. Gilt tracery borders also surround the painted reserves. The background of the top is filled with tiny dots in red, blue-gray and green.
English, circa early 19th Century.
Measures about 2 1/2" diameter by 5/8" high. Overall very good condition with just a couple of very tiny nicks to the rim of the top and slight loss to the gilt tracery.
The inside rim has a couple of pieces missing, as shown in the last photo. This is not seen at all when the box is closed.
