Beautiful Arts and Crafts movement tile by Batchelder Los Angeles.
From 1909 to 1932 the Batchelder company in Los Angeles made some of the finest Arts and Crafts movement tiles. This is a fine example. The design - stylized pomegranates? - are molded in high relief, accentuated by a moorish style border. The tile is unglazed (bisque), with the background matte teal. The brown coloring on the design area has worn in the high areas, creating an attractive finish.
Excellent condition, with one small chip just below the rim on the right side near the front corner. Batchelder tiles are often unmarked, a bonus to this tile is that it is fully marked.
3 3/4" square by 1/2" thick.
