Fine 19th Century turned wood Shaker type sander in untouched original finish.
This is very possibly a Shaker made sander, as seen in the fine turning, light color wood, star shaped holes and yellow varnish. Sanders were filled with fine sand, which was shaken onto the ink when writing to help it dry quickly before it smudged.
This sander is just the way you want to find it, in untouched original finish. The yellow varnish is mostly worn off, giving the piece a beautiful folk art look. The condition is excellent with just one tiny chip and some rubbing on the upper edge. The original paper applied to the base is worn but still mostly present.
Measures 3 3/8" tall by 3 1/4" diameter at the top, 2 1/2" diameter at the base.
Great item for any collection of Shaker items, American folk art, writing instruments or treen.
