Fabulous Antique American miniature chest of drawers in original grained paint. Circa early 19th Century.
This little chest is an accurately scaled down miniature of a late Federal / early Empire American chests of drawers, with two small drawers over two larger drawers. The sides curved gracefully into scrolled feet. As in full sized examples, the top has a backsplash, which has canted corners.
The chest has two different grained finishes which derive from the contrasting woods which were often used in the better full size examples of this type of chest. The drawers have a light color grain paint which simulates curly maple, and the the tops and sides have a grain painted finish which simulates rosewood or mahogany.
Seen from a side view, the back feet are also nicely shaped, as is the scrolled bottoms of the side panels. The wood knobs, which are original, also simulate rosewood or mahogany.
The chest measures 9 1/4" wide by 5 3/4" deep by 9 3/4" high to the top of the backsplash.
The condition is excellent with minimal wear to the paint, as shown in the photos.
This little beauty would be at home in the finest collection of American period furniture, period miniatures or American folk art
