Wonderful American painted tin apple tray in original painted and crystallized decoration.
This is handmade tole, dating between the early to mid 19th Century. It is expertly crafted with nicely finished seams and well cut out handles, with a folded piece at the bottom of each handle.
The exterior is bronze; the interior bottom has a beautiful gold crystallized finish outlined with a yellow band. The interior has a wide band of hand painted flowers, fruits and leaves.
The flowers are painted in red, yellow, dark rust and green. The fruits have a red inside with rust color seeds, then yellow and a blue surround with finely painted veins. The leaves are dark green with light green shading and black veins. Exceptional painting!
There is wear to the background bronze finish, and some wear to the crystalline finish and to the painted band. I've included lots of photos so you can see the wear. Overall, the design comes through quite vividly.
The tray measures just under 12 1/2" long by just under 8" wide at the widest place. The height is 4" at the handled ends.
