Very nice Early American pine wall box, circa 18th Century.
This is an exceptional early pine wall box. The back crest is beautifully designed with a double curve at the top that suggests a heart. The lid is molded around the edges, a rare touch of refinement for a primitive wall box. The front is also panel molded. The hinges appear to be original. Inside, the box is divided into three sections. The dividers and sides are held on the back by early rosehead nails.
The box is in excellent condition, with these notes: One interior divider has a small split at the top, there is wear to the top front edge (mostly hidden when the lid is closed), there is a small split to the top right side (also hidden when the lid is closed) and there is a small piece of wood missing on the bottom, extending to the bottom of the left side. All in all, a wonderful early piece with many great touches.
Measures about 10 1/4" wide x 3 1/4" deep x 5 3/4" high.
