Exceptional English Tea Caddy in the shape of an apple.
This is a beautiful example of this desirable form. Made from fruitwood with a rich patina, wonderfully carved and finely proportioned. The stem is original and is also wonderfully carved. The caddy retains its original iron lock with an antique key that is probably original as well. The hinge retains traces of its original gilding, and the slots of the handmade screws are slightly off center, as they should be.
The metal lining appears to be a replacement, as usually this would be foil lined.
4 1/4" high by 4 1/4" diameter.
