18th Century English Caughley porcelain cup and saucer
Beautiful form, with ribbing and scalloped rims on both the handleless cup and saucer.
Beautifully decorated with fine painting, a pink ground color, and lavish gilding. The pink ground at the rim is unusual and exceptional. There are leaf and floral designs all around in cobalt blue and gilt, with heavy gilt leaf designs on the inside bottoms and heavily gilded rims.
There is a label from an antique dealer in England, and labels of the H.C. Hofheimer II collection. Pieces from this collection are in Winterthur.
The Hofheimer collection attribution is to the Caughley factory, which I believe is correct. There is no doubt the set is 18th Century English porcelain.
The saucer measures about 5 3/8" diameter, the cup is about 2" high.
