Nice sturdy American splint buttocks basket in white paint.
Here's a really nice basket for a country kitchen or for your basket collection. A good sturdy basket with a heavy rim wrap and an interesting handle treatment, with one splint running vertically on the handle and wrapped in a three under, three over pattern.
I can find a few cracks in the splints, but no missing splints or cracks that go through the splint. The basket is not lopsided, but it doesn't sit flat. I've had it displayed for quite a while with a bit of folded up paper so it is flat on the shelf. The paint does not appear to be as old as the basket, which could date anywhere from the 19th up to the early 20th Century. There are 8 ribs, in addition to the heavy handle splint which goes all the way around to the bottom of the basket.
The basket measures about 10 1/2" x 9" x 11 1/2" high, including the handle.
