This very decorative plaque represents Neptune ,or Poseidon, according to Greek or Roman mythology, the sea god with his trident, accompanied by two cherubs and pulled from the waters by two horses.
The plaque is framed and closed at the back,so I don’t know if it bears a mark ,but it is probably a work of Wedgwood from the late 19th century.
The plaque is in good condition, apart from a few tiny cooking defects, very few visible.
It is surrounded by a varnish wooden frame enhanced with a gilded edge.
This frame, which is more recent than the plaque, has been damaged in one place, and the piece of wood has been glued a little askew !
There is also a little wear on the top, but nothing important.
The back is closed by a thick stamped cardboard.
Dimension : 5,7’’ x 8,3’’ framed (14,5cm x 21cm)
3,8’’ x 6,4’’ in sight (9,6cm x 16,3cm)
0,9’’ frame thickness (2,2cm)
This pretty plaque will be perfect in a blue jasper ware items collection.
