This charming little bulldog has been made by the famous French plush factory FADAP ( Fabrique Artistique d’Animaux en Peluche),located in Divonne-les Bains in the department of Ain, in the east of France.
The factory was active between 1924 and 1978.
This little dog dates from the 1930s.A small metal button marked Fadap is attached to his left ear.
He is very similar to the Bully model by Steiff.
The beige mohair that originally covered the body is worn out,on the other hand, the black one which covers the top of the head and the ears is still present, with just some wear.
The wire inside the ears, which served to hold them straight, is a little damaged (cut in places) and they have been stitched up to stay straight.
The muzzle is in beige velvet and the truffle is embroidered in black threads.
His eyes are made of glass.
The most interesting is his incredible collar, made of leather and horsehair which forms a kind of mane around his head, which is movable and allows to give him different adorable expressions.
It stands on four red wooden wheels, which work well. I left the old string.
Except the lack of mohair , somewhat disjointed places, and some small repairs on the top head, this adorable dog is in good condition .
Dimension : about 14’’ long from truffle to tail (36cm)
9,5’’ high with the wheels (24cm)
7,5’’ dog height (19cm)
I'm sure he will be a marvelous companion for your doll !
