This is a very pleasant antique little oil on canvas, unsigned, which has been glued on a cardboard. It’s full of charming little details.
It depicts a lot of characters who take a walk under the trees, some discuss, others play with children ,or dogs.
People wear Louis XVI era clothes,so it could be the Parc of Versailles Castle and maybe Queen Marie-Antoinette in the foreground with the big black hat !
The artist has perfectly rendered the atmosphere of an undergrowth in the summer when people come to enjoy and refresh themselves with family and friends.
The scene is delicately painted by little touches with pretty colors. This technique does not privilege the detail, but an atmosphere, more particularly that of the 18th century aristocratic.
It was originally painted on a small piece of canvas that was later glued to a cardboard backing, and framed recently.
Looking closely at the bottom right of the painting we can see the edge of the canvas and see that it’s old. There is a very small accident in the corner.
The varnish is a worn by place especially at the top at the trees level which gives to the painting a more matte appearance at this place. It would be good to revernish the painting entirely.
The frame, with a canvas inner border which gets up a little, is made of stuccoed gilded wood,in overall good condition with just some very few lacks of stucco by places.
Dimensions: with the frame 11,22’’ x 9,64’’ (28,5 x 24,5cm)
sight 6,10’’ x 4,52’’ (15,5 x 11,5cm)
It’s a really pretty and delicate painting, perfect for a boudoir!
