This charming pair of face screens is entirely made of silk with a pretty trim all around which also covers the handle.
Each screen has a different decor, representing domestic scenes from engravings of the 18th century, one is the music lesson, the other, characters talking in a boudoir. The names of the painter and the engraver are hidden by the nice yellow ribbon forming a frame around the scene,we can see them by raising it very delicately!Small sequins, some of which are missing, are sewn on the ribbon which form a knot in the four corners.
The back is lined with a vivid yellow silk, with just some wear in places.
I think the screens are mounted on a metal frame, which gives them a good rigidity.
They are both in good condition and you can still use them to protect your face from the heat of the fireplace!
The screens are 10,4’’ x 8,7’’ (26,5 x 22cm) handles are 5,5’’ long (14cm).
It’s the first time I see suchlike face screens, and there originality should please a collector.
