Here are two very pretty antique caps, typical of the Sundgau province in Alsace.
The most worked is embroidered with golden threads and embellished with flowers patterns realized with small gilded metal plates and white shiny stones .
Flowers stems are made of gilded brass sequins and leaves are surrounded by ‘’ cannetilles’’,fine twisted metal wires.
It should be noted that the fabric underneath is very worn and reveals the padding, and there are some lacks of sequins and golden thread here and there.
But it’s a superb embroidery work and a beautiful collection object for antique clothes lovers.
The second cap is simpler, but equally charming.
It’s in blue damask silk, embroidered with silvered thread.
The fabric has undergone some damages : 2 or 3 small holes in the silk and discoloration spots on each side of the cap.
There is also a small uprising of the metal thread at the top.
Given their age these defects are quite normal and they are in overall good condition.
Please see photos,I tried to show you everything !
The gilded is 9,06 inches high ( 23cm ) and 6,5 inches wide ( 16,5cm ) and the blue 9,84 inches ( 25cm )x 6,69 inches ( 17cm )
