These lovely Georgian Era engravings represent family scenes with mothers and children.
The first ,entitled ‘’Prayers’’ ,depicts a young mother teaching prayers to her children,who seem to listen her carefully !
The poem under the title is from Isaac Watts (1674-1748) an English poet,theologian and preacher.
The print is from Brooks and Nicholas and was published in 1809 by Edward Orme,publisher and engraver in London.
The lithograph is in good antique condition,just some very light traces in places on the paper,essentially on the left edge near the frame;
The second print is titled ‘’Sleep’’ and shows an adorable baby sleeping on her mother’s knees,who looks at him with full love !
The poem below is also from Isaac Watts,but the print is from Freschi and Cooper.
It also comes from Edward Orme.
This one is a little more stained and presents two visible discolored stains at the bottom left ,two light brown lines on the right,and a white trace all along the left edge near the frame.
I think the paper of the two lithos has darkened a little over time.
But these small defaults are very forgivable for a paper that is more than 200 years old.
The background of the drawings are very stripped on purpose to highlight the characters.
The two prints are surrounded by a narrow stuccoed wooden frame with a painting imitating the marquetry.
The frames are much more recent and must date from the 1920s.
Please note some accidents on the stucco at several places.
Dimension : 13,6’’ x 11,2’’ framed (34,5cm x 28,5cm)
12,6’’ x 10,2’’ sight (32cm x 26cm)
Please do not take into account most of the white marks due to the reflection on the glass.
