A finely painted scene of Pheasants in the grass. I cannot tell if what I see at the pheasants feet is a signature, or just part of the painting. This brooch has 3 issues- The entire pin mechanism has been replaced, the mother of pearl backing ( or metal) to protect painting is gone, and there is a visible scratch on the painting. The metal of the brooch does not test as gold at all, neither does the pin. I believe this to be a circa 1945 Victorian revival piece.
I considered attempting a repair, I think the clear "Colores epoxy" I use would stabilize and protect the painting, it dries like glass. I always hesitate to do a repair on an old piece that cannot be undone. It takes days of soaking in pure acetone to remove "Colores epoxy" and that would destroy the painting I am sure. None the less I will do so for purchaser upon request at no charge. .I am a Graduate Gemologist (1995) and retired jewelry store owner (18 years), and my husband is my jeweler.
