I live in Cherokee County , GA where we had a gold rush in the 1830s. The creeks still have gold and I am active with a local gold panning group. I am a rotten gold panner but it is still fun. When I still had my store I often bought the gold panner's nuggets. I made a line of crosses where we laser welded small natural nuggets from the creeks onto crosses of either Gold or Sterling. This is the last 14 karat white gold one I had left when I closed my store. When I would have Cherokee county gold ( as opposed to Dalton or Ringgold Ga ) refined I had percentages as high as 97% purity. I am not saying all Cherokee county Ga gold is that fine, but am discussing my personal experience. I am fascinated by gems and minerals we have right under our feet!
