Vintage locket. A large lovely locket with the flowers done in rose gold on a yellow gold background. The locket has frames and plastic inserts. I believe this is a Revival piece circa 1950, and that the plastic inserts are modern replacements. The locket acid tests as 14 KT gold. I simply listed that information in the heading to level the playing field. The locket has no gold purity marks or hall marks. In my opinion the locket is 14 kt rolled gold. Rolled gold will pass an acid test unless you cut into it so deeply the item is ruined. The British and the French began using purity marks on gold in the 13th century!! We had gold purity marks on gold and silver in the USA from the very beginning as jewelers were trained by European trained jewelers. Rolled gold items were originally 20% gold and that is very-very different from 1/20th gold filled. I have heard people say old jewelry was often not stamped but I have,in my 28 years in business, found that to be the rare exception and not the rule. The locket closes securely.
