Victorian
Shell Form Biscuit Box
Victorian design is recognized for its luxurious and highly ornate aesthetic. The antithesis to minimalism, the Victorian aesthetic favored an abundance of intricate prints, patterns and textures, and is characterized by deep jewel tones and dark wood furnishings such as those made from mahogany and walnut. Intricately carved furniture and elaborate collections of accessories and novel curio (as the genre of curiosity cabinets gained popularity during the Victorian era) all contributed to the grandiose yet refined atmosphere that became synonymous with the Victorian look. The British call cookies "biscuits", and this lovely caddy lined with a tea towel was the perfect way to serve them! The repousse work is delightful, no monograms, no large dents or deep scratches and not machine polished! Fenton of Sheffield circa 1880.
