A pretty ring from the mid Victorian period, c1860s. The ring is made from 9ct gold and has a beautiful pansy motif at its centre. The pansy is derived from the word 'pensez' in French and came to symbolise 'thinking of you'. This pansy has pretty etching in the gold and is set with a natural turquoise at the centre. The etching continues along the shoulders and half of the shank and the design has a lovely convex shape.
The ring has evidence of previous enamelling, but this has all but been lost over time. The shank has also been replaced at some point in antiquity and is also made from 9ct gold.
