A pretty locket with a lovely subject etched into the gold. The locket is made from 15ct gold and is from the late Victorian period, c1880. One side of the locket has a wonderful etching with a heart at the centre, flanked by intricate angel wings and topped by a wonderful crown. All three of these emblems have plenty of symbolism - a heart for love, a crown for royalty (a crowned heart also represents 'the ruler of my heart') and the angel wings for protection. To the other side of the locket there are etched initials, seemingly CDFS. The heart ensemble could be a family crest with the owners initials on the back, or the initials could be those of two lovers intertwined. The possibilities are numerous and in all senses, this locket is marvellous.
Inside there are the two original frames that can be removed to place photos or momentos of your choosing behind. The locket has a firm clasp.
