This impressive pendant is Mexican in origin and has an incredible natural amethyst that has been carved to represent an Inca face. The carving has been beautifully done and the amethyst sits in an oval frame with a rope twist design around it. To the top of the face is a snake's head and the rope twist edge has been crafted as the snake's body. A truly magnificent statement piece.
This piece is made from 18kt gold; I have seen Inca pieces in silver, but to find one in gold is a rare site! This one remains unsigned.
Materials - 18kt Gold (tested), Amethyst
Age - C1970s
Size - The pendant measures 40mm from the top of the bale to the bottom of the pendant: it is 23mm wide.
Condition - Very good. There is a natural inclusion in the 'nose' of the amethyst creating a change of light when viewed from the side. This is a completely internal inclusion and a part of the natural amethyst. The carving is in excellent condition and smooth all over to the touch.
Weight - 16.8g
