This is a rare and beautiful first half of the 16th century polychrome terra cotta plate made during the reign of King Francis 1 (Francois 1). This piece of history depicts the Virgin Mary with baby Jesus, both flanked by the sun and the moon. Note the clothing and the crown worn by Mary, typical of the period. The colors have faded over the centuries but some red and gold can still be seen. This plaque was repaired at some point (see picture of the back). Circa date 1620-1640.
