Charming hand painted brooch of a pretty young girl in a 10K rose gold frame. She is wearing an early to mid 18th century dress, and an eyelet lace cap. The dress is blue with a wide white collar and pale yellow neckline. The ruffled cap has wonderful detail. It is trimmed in blue ribbon, with a yellow plaid bow. Her long wavy hair falls down the front of her dress, and down her back. The portrait is completely hand painted. There is a fold down swivel bail that allows the brooch to be worn as a pendant.
The brooch measures 54mm x 40mm. The gold content of the frame is not marked, however, an acid test confirms it is 10K gold. There is an inner band inside the back of the frame that is holding the cameo in place. It does not appear to be gold. Under strong magnification, there are a few very, very tiny little nicks to the paint, that are not noticeable without magnification and are only mentioned for accuracy. Otherwise it is in excellent condition. It's rare to find a hand painted portrait of this quality in a gold frame. It dates to the early 20th century.
