Vintage octagonal Art Deco engine turned 800 silver snuff box, from Florence Italy. Precision made best describes this octagonal Art Deco silver snuff box from Italy. This snuff box is made of 800 silver, and has a very fine engine turned criss cross design, with chasing along the edges. It has an unusual octagonal shape which can be seen from the side in the photos. The box is heavy and beautifully made. It has a silky feel to it. I've never seen a box with such a nice hinge as this one. And the clasp on the front operates crisply, and is very secure. The box measures 2.88 inches from side to side, 1.75 inches from front to back, and is just a hair under 1 inch thick. The underside of the clasp is marked 800, and has a lozenge shaped mark with FI and a number in it, which dates it to the 1930's. FI stands for Florence, and the number is the maker's mark. I was unable to find out exactly who the maker is. This box is precision made, with the top and bottom fitting together perfectly. It is heavy, weighing 68.3 grams, and is in excellent condition.
