Antique Porcelain portrait miniature of a young Neapolitan. Gorgeous antique, hand painted oval porcelain portrait of a young Neapolitan boy, after the original work by German 19th Century painter Gustav Karl Richter 1823 - 1884, entitled 'Junger Neapolitaner', which translates to Young Neapolitan. Dressed in peasant clothing, the boy has wonderful detail in his expertly painted face, and is wearing a golden medal or locket around his neck and a small hoop earring. I didn't take the portrait out of the frame because the original cardboard backing is still intact, so I wasn't able to determine if there are any markings on the back of the portrait, or if there is a signature under the edge of the frame. The porcelain itself measures approximately 3.5 inches x 5 inches, with the frame making the overall measurements 6.38 inches by 4.75 inches. The porcelain is in perfect condition with no cracks, nicks or scratches. The gesso frame has floral details and a scalloped edge. It does have some losses as is the case with many gesso frames of this age. The back of the frame still carries the name of the Austrian framing shop, A. Krautszack , Wien. I believe the portrait is German, but the framing was done in Vienna, Austria. It dates to the late Victorian period from c. 1880 - 1900.
