Absolutely exquisite, highly detailed, handmade, large Victorian fly crafted in 14 karat gold, 10 karat gold, silver, diamonds and rubies. There are 50 mine cut and rose cut diamonds that have an estimated total weight of 1.75 carats. They range in color from approximately H-L with one rectangle diamond that almost looks like a fancy yellow. But most of them appear white and are SI in clarity. All different shapes which is typical of these handmade pieces. So unique and lovely. The eyes are set with pinkish/red cabochon rubies. I believe this brooch is circa 1860-1890. The back of the brooch has a C clasp with an additional, movable safety. These extra safety clasps were used on superior crafted jewelry. The brooch measures approximately 1” high and 1 5/8” wide at its widest point. It is unmarked but has been gently tested to be a combination of 14 karat gold, 10 karat gold and silver. The condition is excellent with tarnish and very slight, age appropriate wear. I have not polished or cleaned it. A superb addition to anyones collection of fine, Victorian jewelry.
