This beautiful sterling silver berry spoon has engraved apple or cherry blossoms on the handle and inside the bowl. The silver has a matte finish; the bowl is washed with gold to prevent tarnishing. This spoon is from Towle Silversmiths of Newburyport, Mass. Towle was in business from 1876 until 1990; this spoon is from around 1880-1890. The Victorians served fruit from a large berry bowl (usually hand-painted china with several matching small bowls); this was the serving spoon that would have been used. It is in near-perfect original condition. It measures 9 1/4" long X 2 3/4" wide and weighs 2.4 oz.
