This oval flow blue pottery dish is footed and has a handle at either end. There is a fitted lid with a fancy handle on top. The marks on the dish are difficult to decipher but do say "Shafer," semi-porcelain, and "236241." It is probably American in origin and probably dates from before 1920, based on the appearance, material, and style of the piece. It looks very much like the English flow blue of the era and is quite decorative. The design is a dark blue, moderately flowed transfer underglaze in a twining leaf, floral, and berry pattern. There is some applied gold decoration enhancing the design. The bowl is 11 1/2" long, 7 1/2" wide, and 5" tall. It is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, wear, scratches, etc. It does have overall crazing of the glaze.
