This Native American belt buckle is solid silver (not marked but tested) and weighs 63.8 grams. The surface is channel inlay using chips of green turquoise. The design is curvaceous rather than geometrical; it has an organic look; one can almost see a butterfly or other large insect in the center. The buckle feels smooth to the touch with no roughness at all. There are signs that this buckle has been worn over the years, such as a patina to the silver. On the back is a scratched area where the buckle was tested when it was sold for melt. This gorgeous piece is 1 3/4" wide and 2 3/4" long. It fits a 1 1/4" wide belt. This hand-wrought buckle is in excellent original condition. There are no marks, but the weight and workmanship suggest a date of around 1940-1950.
