This beautifully hand-quilted (8 stitches per inch) white quilt features nine large red hand-embroidered motifs across its body. Embroidery work is exquisitely done chain stitch throughout. The central motif is a wreath of flowers and a flying bird above the initials "D.M.W." in script and the date, 1929. Other embroideries include a rooster, two turtle doves, and "Good Luck" with a horseshoe. There is a story here, if only one is clever enough to read it. The motifs are original art, not traced from a book. The quilt came from a Chicago area collector of Victoriana and has a Victorian look to it, although it is not Victorian. It is 100% cotton, washable, and clean. It is in excellent condition except for a bit of wear at the top edge (shown in the photographs). It measures 74" X 74" and is shown across a full sized bed.
