Here is a sterling silver, gold-washed enamel pin from Aksel Holmsen of Sanderfjord, Norway. It has a wonderful modernist design suggesting a comet, or perhaps a feathered medallion. The pin is black and white, adding to the drama of the design. There is curvature, allowing light to reflect from the lovely white guilloche enamel. The pin bears an older mark of Holmsen's, indicating a date of before 1970. There is a C-catch and tube hinge; the pin is not antique, however, because it is sterling silver (older Scandinavian pieces were 830 silver). This unusual 7/8" X 2 1/2" pin is in excellent original condition.
