Here is an embroidered quilt from around 1920 with a popular period motif of a water lily. Each of the nine hand-embroidered squares features a pond at dawn with a water lily and cattails. Colors used are red, blue, green, brown, and yellow on white. The grid of this quilt is copen blue. The design was perhaps traced from a picture book of the era. There is enough variation in the blocks to determine that it is not made from a kit. This quilt is beautifully quilted with pattern quilting; hand-quilting is at 10 stitches per inch. This quilt is in excellent, never-washed, original condition. It is 100% cotton and may be safely washed in the washing machine on gentle. There is one small brown age spot, not easily seen. It is 74" X 76" and will fit a twin or full sized bed. This quilt was found in the Chicago area.
