This late nineteenth century soup tureen is American ironstone pottery in the "Moss Rose" design. It is from Coxon & Co. Of New Jersey. The colorful roses design is delicately hand-painted in colors of pink, red, green and brown. The sprays of roses appear on the lid, both sides of the base, and inside the bowl of the ladle. The edges and handles of all pieces are trimmed with gold (a bit worn). This soup tureen includes the footed base, the slotted lid, and the original ceramic soup ladle. All pieces are in excellent original condition (no repairs). There is crazing of the glaze and slight discoloration inside the tureen. This hard-to find piece measures 8" tall, 12 1/2" across the handles, and 10" in diameter. The ladle is 11" long and 4 1/4" in diameter. This is a real find: an original set of tureen with ladle.
