This pin dates from the 1940's; during this decade, lucite replaced bakelite as the plastic of choice for jewelry and accessories. This pin is clear lucite with reverse carving accenting this long-billed bird's breast and tail. The bill has been painted orange on the back. There is a raised and painted eye on the front surface. The bird's large wing, glued to the top, is made of carved and polished wood. A showy brooch, this piece measures 4" tall X 1 3/4" wide X 1/2" thick. This fun pin is in excellent original condition.
