This antique brooch is marked "sterling silver 6" on the back. Most of these brooches were made in England; it is not clear where this one originates, but it is in the English style. The brooch is round with a raised rounded glass surface. Underneath the glass is butterfly wing from the Papillon Belle, a Brazilian butterfly. Above the butterfly wing and also under the glass is the Classical figure of a white, horn-playing woman, or goddess, in a flowing dress. This pin is in excellent original condition with only the tiniest bit of deterioration visible. The pin bears a tube hinge, C-catch, and long pin bar; thus, it dates from around 1900. It is 1" in diameter.
