This locket is for antique lovers. Dating from around 1890, this Victorian locket is carved of black onyx and smoothly polished. It is a large 2" X 1 3/8" oval, 3/8" thick. In the center of the front is a cut round depression with a gypsy-set half-pearl in the center. The pearl is original but has slight damage. The mountings on this piece are all 14K gold, tested but not marked. There is a large, 1/2" long bail that allows this locket to be worn on a silk cord, heavy chain, toggled chain, or whatever you wish. The back of the locket has a 1 1/4" X 7/8" compartment for a memento (it was the custom of the era to save the hair of a loved one) or photo. It is now empty. The fittings are 14K and in excellent condition. The lid opens with the hinge on the right. The original beveled glass window is there. This locket is a rarity because of its size and excellent condition as well as its age.
