This 8 3/4" flow blue pottery plate is English, most likely Staffordshire, in origin, and in the pattern "Shanghai." I have been unable to determine the maker; the mark is a W. This plate has a very deep cobalt blue, heavily-flowed underglaze design. The border design is of scrolls and flowers; the center design is of a Chinese villa with trees and a lake. The details are lost in the flow; nevertheless, the plate is quite decorative. The plate is mid to late nineteenth century in age and is in good vintage condition; there is surface wear and very minor staining, but no chips, cracks, or crazing. There are 5 of these plates available.
