Victorian Tea Caddy with Mother of Pearl Inlay
Here is a mid-nineteenth century American primitive tea caddy, the sarcophagus form dating it from between 1840 and 1860. The piece has walnut veneer with slight damage to one side (shown in the photographs). The base wood is poplar. The front is inlaid with mother-of-pearl around the keyhole (the lock is intact but with no key). Inside, the tea caddy has three compartments lined with foil. Each compartment has its original handmade lid. The underside of the hinged lid has its original wallpaper lining. Overall, this primitive tea caddy is in excellent original condition. It measures 10 1/2" long X 5 1/2" wide X 6 1/2" tall.
