This gold-filled bangle bracelet dates from the early twentieth century. The marking, "B & V," is probably that of Byron and Vail of New York; this company began in 1909. The bracelet is brass with applied layers of gold-filled metal both inside and out. The inner layer is smooth; the outer surface has been decorated with flowers and plumes using a stamping technique on the background areas. Tooling has been done to emphasize the pretty design. The decoration goes all the way around. There is no base metal showing through the gold top layer, but there is wear commensurate with age. This very pretty bracelet is 5/8" wide. It has an inside circumference of 6 3/4" and opens 2" for the hand to fit inside. A safety chain prevents the bracelet from opening wider. This not only protects against loss, but against damaging the hinge. The tongue-in-slot catch works nicely. This pretty vintage bracelet is in very nice condition.
